Wellington residents can breathe a sigh of relief and give thanks to the eagle-eyed oversight of city councillor Tony Randle, who found the “small but significant” error in the council’s cost-benefit analysis for declaring a speed limit of 30km/h for vehicles travelling on more than 90 percent of the streets of Wellington.
Thank God for Mr. Randle! He’s single-handedly saved Wellington City from making a potentially disastrous and incomprehensible mistake.

The analysis from the council was publicised along the lines that the speed limit needed to be drastically cut to make our streets safer. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The council says it will come back with a revised proposal in August, but we’re not holding our breath. This is one daft mad idea that’s had a short life and will now be put on the shelf to gather dust!
